Heat and Weight loss - It is clear My Body Has Filed for Resignation
My dog and I: Heat makes us eat, and then we are getting caught on the couch. At least one of us has Retatrutide. 😂
October 7th, 2026 — Wednesday
Weight: 147.1 pounds — Week 8, Day 1
The last three days were so hot that I think my body simply filed for resignation. No air-conditioning, nonstop heat, and I was exhausted all the time. Not normal tired. More like: the couch is calling my name, and apparently I have absolutely no power to resist.
And as if being hot, tired, and useless wasn't enough, the scale decided to join the fun and jumped 3 pounds. Yes. Three pounds. Unbelievable, but true.
Now, I know that doesn't mean I suddenly gained three pounds of fat. Heat can do some very strange things to the scale through dehydration, fluid shifts, changes in food intake, and everything still sitting in your digestive system. If you are wondering how heat can make the scale jump three pounds, I wrote a whole article about exactly that.
So yes, I have officially decided that when I get my money in January, the first thing I am buying is an air-conditioner. Forget luxury. This is now a medical necessity. Or at least that is what I am telling myself.
The Couch Problem
Today I finally went back to work at the office, but I changed my routine a little. Usually, I work pretty efficiently at home in the morning, but the problem starts when I take my first break. By then, it is also getting hotter, and suddenly my body and my brain have a little meeting and unanimously decide: Lie on the couch. Do not move. Productivity has ended for today.
And somehow I become completely helpless, with absolutely no say in the matter — at least that is how it feels. Once I listen to them, that's pretty much it.
So today I went directly to my office. And guess what? My offcie has no couch waiting for me. Problem solved. I just work. I am still tired, yes, but at least I am functioning again.
Apparently My Phone Is Now an Emergency
Although today I am also ridiculously jumpy. My phone rang and I nearly jumped out of my chair. Apparently three days of heat didn't just attack my energy and my weight-loss efforts — now my nervous system is acting like the phone is an emergency alarm.
Excellent.
Scientist vs. Water
I also definitely did not drink enough over the last few days, but somehow I managed to eat more. And yes, I know perfectly well that when you're dehydrated, thirst can sometimes feel a lot like hunger. I knew that. I am a scientist. And apparently my brilliant scientific solution was still: Maybe food instead of water?
Go figure.
My Stomach Has Opinions
Now, of course, I am bloated and my stomach hurts a little. And overeating while taking Retatrutide is not exactly a brilliant combination. Retatrutide can slow gastric emptying, and apparently my stomach is now reviewing my recent food choices and filing a formal complaint.
So today's lesson seems to be: Drink the water. Avoid the couch. Respect the Retatrutide. And maybe don't answer the phone too suddenly.
Still, getting out of the house clearly helped. Maybe the trick is not to wait until I feel motivated at home, because once the couch gets me, I am apparently gone for the day.
