Protection

Michael - the protector

A Guardian in an Uncertain World

Michael represents goodness and protection. I wrote the angels almost as guardians because, while I was writing the story, I needed that feeling myself.

COVID was frightening. The world felt uncertain. So I created a world where, even when everything becomes terrible, help can still appear.

Sometimes from where you expect it.

Sometimes from somewhere completely unexpected.

But Michael and the other angels represent more than protection to me. They also represent friendship.

Real friendship.

We all have different kinds of friends.

The fun friend.

The friend you go out with.

The friend who needs you more than you need them.

The friend who disappears when life becomes inconvenient.

The friend who replaces you—or changes plans with you the moment something better comes along.

And then there are the rare ones:

The friends you can call when everything falls apart.

The angels are those real friends, you can count on.

Real Friendship

The Comfort of Trust

During a frightening and uncertain time like COVID, I think I poured some of my own emotions into them. I created friendships that felt completely safe—something pure, where betrayal, abandonment, or hidden motives simply did not exist.

There was something comforting in the idea of being able to trust someone completely.

That even when you feel alone, someone is still there.

That even when everything seems to be falling apart, you are not completely unprotected.

An Emotional Safe Place

For me, Michael and the other angels became a kind of emotional safe place.

They represent the people who give you courage when you are afraid, hope when things feel hopeless, and, perhaps most importantly, the feeling that you do not have to face everything alone.
